For over thirty years, Melody Treco-Hanna has been an educator and looking at her that’s hard to believe. Yet, she has taught in six educational institutions in The Bahamas and one in the USA. And consistently, wherever she has taught, she has been graded for her performance with the coveted mark of ‘excellence’. For example, at Kingsway Academy, where she has spent most her teaching years, she has been assessed repeatedly for ‘Excellence’ for her classroom work and extra curricular involvement.
For her professional preparation, she studied in Chicago, Illinois, USA for the Illinois Teaching Certificate (1984) and received a Learning and Technology Certificate from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA (2002). She earned the baccalaureate degree in Education in 1984, from Trinity College, Deerfield, Illinois, USA and in 2002 her postgraduate degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, graduating high honors.
She started Genesis Academy in the fall of 2006. Her venture in being Founding Principal of her own school is the logical outgrowth of a life of service in the field of education, marked by solid preparation in academics and experiences both varied and valid in the fields of business management and Christian service. She is married to Leroy “Tinkle” Hanna, Associate Pastor of Grace Community Church and they have two adult children, Lyric who is the Director of Academic Affairs and High School Division and Duet who currently works as Operations Manager at Ultimate Protection Services, one son-in-law Giorgio who is the Operations Manager of Genesis Academy and one grandson Madison Jazz.
Beryl Knowles is a veteran educator with twenty-nine years of teaching experience. She has taught children in kindergarten through grade six. Ms. Knowles has experienced teaching in Nassau, Grand Bahama and Florida. In each of the schools she was recognized highly by the administration for her creative classroom techniques, warm and winning personality, school spirit, outstanding leadership abilities, and a commitment to make better those children under her care. A highly trusted teacher among her peers and in the eyes of her superiors, Ms. Knowles has served in each of her appointments as Grade Level Leader with excellence.
Ms. Knowles earned the baccalaureate degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education in 1986 from Clearwater Christian College, Clearwater, Florida. Since that time, she has kept her skills sharp by attending numerous professional and personal development conferences and seminars and in particular those focused on better methods in the teaching of math, science and reading.
Ms. Knowles was born in Matthew Town, Inagua and spent her early childhood there. At age 11, she relocated to Nassau to pursue her high school education at Queen’s College. She is the proud mother of two adult daughters, Stevette who recently completed her Bachelor’s Degree in CIS and currently works as a graphic and web designer and Gabrielle who also recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing(RN) and currently works at PMH in NICU.
