Twenty Years on Shirley & Dowdeswell Street

From a single preschool room in 2006 to a continuous sixteen-year pathway in 2026 — built one division at a time, on the same corner of central Nassau.

Our History

At Genesis, education begins with faith.

Anchored in our school verse, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10), we believe true learning flows from reverence for God.

Founded in 2006, Genesis Academy began with a vision: to create an educational sanctuary in central Nassau where faith, academic excellence, and character development go hand in hand. Anchored in Christian principles, what started as a dedicated effort to nurture young minds on Shirley Street has grown over two decades into a NAECOB-accredited, comprehensive 16-year learning pathway from Age 2 to Grade 12.

At the heart of Genesis Academy is a commitment to fostering a Christ-centered environment where biblical values form the bedrock of daily life. We believe true education addresses both the mind and the heart. By instilling integrity, compassion, and moral leadership into our daily interactions, morning devotionals, and student culture, we ensure our graduates are grounded in strong ethical principles as they navigate an evolving world.

Alongside this spiritual foundation, Genesis has consistently bridged traditional values with forward-thinking pedagogy. Recognizing early on that 21st-century leadership demands technological fluency, Genesis became an early pioneer of blended learning in The Bahamas. By seamlessly integrating direct classroom instruction with advanced digital platforms like Schoology, Ignitia, and HMH, we empower students to achieve academic excellence at their optimal pace.

Over the past 20 years (2006–2026), our dual focus on faith and academic rigor has translated into national recognition:

Today, operating from our central campus at #150 Shirley & Dowdeswell Street, Genesis Academy remains a family-focused institution dedicated to its original calling: developing confident, ethically grounded, and technologically adept Christian leaders who are prepared to make a positive impact on the world.

The Principal's 20th anniversary address

"Some of our first two-year-olds have now graduated from university."

Anchored in our school verse, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10), we believe true learning flows from reverence for God.

When we admitted our first class in September 2006, most of them were two years old and none of them could have told you what a BGCSE was. Several of those children have since graduated from this school, finished a degree abroad, and come back to Nassau to work. That sequence — from our smallest room to a professional career — is the whole argument for what we built here.

Our first decade was about existence: proving that a small, independent, centrally located school could hold national accreditation and teach to national standards without losing its warmth. Our second decade was about depth. We retained certified faculty year on year rather than rebuilding a staff every August. We aligned every course to BJC and BGCSE requirements. We adopted technology that makes a child's progress visible to the adults responsible for it, and we trained teachers before we bought licences.

The third decade will be about reach: more university partnerships, more scholarship pathways for Bahamian families, and a college-preparatory experience in Grades 10 through 12 that stands comparison with any school in the region. We remain, deliberately, a school where the principal knows the pupils' names — and intends to keep it that way.
