PRE-K & KINDERGARTEN

Early Learning Division (ELD) consists of children age 3-5. ELD includes three classroom teachers, one teaching assistants, and four teaching specialists in the areas of Music, Spanish, Swimming and P.E. ELD teachers provide instruction in Early Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Art.

THE EARLY LEARNING DIVISION (ELD)

Our Pre-K and Kindergarten program recognizes that children will soon have a range of expectations for a child’s social and academic performance. Our comprehensive curriculum places a clear emphasis on continuing development of strong language, reading and writing abilities, and math skills essential for ongoing success in school and life.

Our Pre-K and Kindergarten curriculum is a student-centered learning environment and incorporates the academic expectations of local and international curriculum standards so children make a successful and seamless transition to elementary school.

Core Program Overview: Pre-K and Kindergarten is a three year of highly visible progress in reading & language arts and math. The major milestones in Pre-K and Kindergarten reading and language arts are:

Language Arts & Early Literacy

  1. Developing an awareness of letters
  2. Recognizing letter sounds
  3. Awareness of the relationship of “letters to words” and “words to sentences”
  4. Initial, Medial and End sounds in a word
  5. Reading blends & diphthongs
  6. Reading one & two vowel words
  7. Reading passages and short answer to questions
  8. Recognizing basic sight words in text
  9. Decoding phonic sound words

Mathematics

  1. Developing a strong number sense
  2. Identifying numbers 1-100
  3. Counting by twos and threes up to 30
  4. Dictation of numbers
  5. Numbers Sequence-before, middle and after
  6. Basic addition & subtraction of one digit numbers
  7. Simple word problems
  8. Clocks – telling time-o’clocks and minutes past the hour
  9. Counting coins, reading a Pictograph
  10. Adding one digit up to 9
