Genesis Academy has dethroned Teleos Christian School as the champions of Bahamas Scholastic Athletic Association (BSAA) Track and Field Meet. They secured the title on Friday afternoon at the original Thomas A. Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

Genesis finished atop the overall standings with a score of 1,074.50 points. Teleos, who won the championship back in 2019, was the closest behind them with 867 points. Akhepran International Academy was third with 442 points.

Rounding out the top five places were Noble Prep and Greenville Prep with 320.50 and 318 points, respectively. There was no championship meet last year due to the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in The Bahamas.

The meet had participation from boys and girls, from the under-7 divisions right up to under-20 divisions.

Genesis won eight of the 14 divisions. On the girls side, they won the under-9, under-11, under-15, under-17 and the under-20 divisions. They swept the high school portion on the girls side – a tough feat. In the boys, they won the under-7, under-13 and under-15 divisions.

Teleos won both the under-13 girls 4×100 and 4×100 meters (m) relays, finishing ahead of Genesis in both races. Only Teleos and Genesis ran in those relays.

The relays were split between Teleos and Genesis in the under-15 girls division. Teleos won the 4x100m relay, Genesis was second and Akhepran was third. In the 4x400m relay, Genesis won followed by Teleos in second as they were the only two schools in that race.

Noble Prep’s Chavez Ellis won the under-20 boys 200m. Teleos’ Tafeiri Strachan was second as he stopped Noble Prep from finishing first and second. Ellis’ teammate, Sheldon Charlot, was third.

On the younger side, Freedom Baptist’s Prestina Metellus won the under-7 girls 200m. Following her in second place was Believers Faith Academy’s Ariah Knight and Genesis’ Melody Knowles was third.

After winning the under-17 boys long jump on Thursday, Teleos’ Michael Albury came back and won the high jump on Friday. Akhepran’s Baron Coleby placed second. The other three jumpers were unable to clear a height.

Teleos’ Ricarzia Taylor won the under-20 girls shot put. Greenville Prep’s Reneka White was second and Akhepran’s Brandesha Cox finished third.

The meet was the first high school sports meet to be held in The Bahamas since the Bahamas National High School Track and Field Championships were canceled in March 2020 due to the arrival of COVID-19 in the country.
